Welcome to the Link Alliance newsletter for Aotea Station, part of the City Rail Link project. Our team will bring you monthly updates on construction progress and let you know what’s coming up.

When Aotea Station opens in 2024, with entrances on Wellesley Street West and Victoria Street West, it's expected to be the busiest train station in New Zealand. But first, we need to build it!

Tunnel boring machine naming competition
Nominations for the name of our Tunnel Boring Machine have been received from around New Zealand. Today is your last day to nominate a ground-breaking New Zealand woman at www.digCRL.co.nz

The top three names will be announced on 30 March and you can vote for your favourite until 24 April.

Wellesley - Albert - Mayoral intersection

On 1 March, the intersection of Wellesley Street West, Albert Street and Mayoral Drive was closed to vehicles until early 2021.  Throughout, it will be accessible by people on foot and the area open for business.

We are working closely with Auckland Transport on light phasing improvements as the new layout beds in.  In partnership with Auckland Transport, we publicised the closure in advance through advertising, on-site signage and our team's engagement with the local community.

Our crews are working within the newly closed intersection, locating and diverting underground utilities before main station works begin.

Work in progress - March 2020

Work will continue throughout March, locating and diverting underground utilities on Albert Street and adjacent streets, including works along Victoria Street West, on the eastern side of the intersection with Albert Street.

You’ll notice containers and portacabins arriving at the construction support area within the old Bledisloe carpark site.  The area will include a kitchen, lunch room, and facilities for the crews building the station.  Later this month we’ll lay the foundation slab for our bentonite plant and we'll install a dome over the site to provide shelter and control dust.

Business profile:  Little Albert Coffee

With a focus on quality, Little Albert Coffee at 89 Albert Street, is a wonderful spot serving great coffee that hits the spot, along with a selection of cabinet food items and other drinks.  We recommend trying their cold brew or iced chocolate, perfect on a hot day.  A warm smile and quick, friendly service keep customers coming back.

Open weekdays until 3pm.

Archaeological find – Royal Albert Hall

Did you know that Auckland once had its own Royal Albert Hall?  The hall was located on Mayoral Drive at the corner with the old Myers Street (now the entrance to the Bledisloe carpark).  More modest than its London namesake, the hall served as a community centre accommodating presentations, small stage shows and morning teas.

Our excavations have uncovered some of the hall’s brick foundations. Our project archaeologist is assessing the find and we’ll share their report’s highlights in the next newsletter.
