Pocket Park Stage A Hit
A lively new stage area for local performers, bands, or up-and-coming buskers is garnering interest on Karangahape Road.
The stage came to be after the original layout of Beresford Square was impacted by Karangahape Station works earlier this year. A troupe of locals considering the layout of the public space suggested it could be turned into a public stage area for performances and our station team obliged.
Working with this group of locals, the Link Alliance sourced a few bins from the nearby Karangahape Road enhancement project and transformed them into planters to add native bush at the newly developed stage area, now known as Buskers Pitt or Pocket Park.
The set up was further enhanced by an eye-catching scooby doo 60’s inspired mural backdrop, produced by local artist Shelley Botticelli.
Any members of the public or even passers-by are welcome to perform at any time on the stage as the area has a busking license under the Link Alliance.
To date, there have been three organised performances at this stage with the fourth performance on Thursday June 3 from Kweens of K Road, with a Drag Queen DJ and Drag Catwalk.
People can book slots to perform on the stage through the Karangahape Road Business Association website linked here, or if the stage is unoccupied, anyone is welcome to rock up and perform until their hearts content.
