Last steel strut removed from the Albert Street trench
CRL’s contractor Connectus (McConnell Dowell and Downer joint venture) reached another milestone in late October with the removal of the last temporary steel strut from the Albert Street trench.
This now means 99 percent of the temporary works steel and concrete decks have now been removed from the trench.
The steel struts were used to support the trench during the bulk excavation and the construction of the tunnels. The steel struts were also used to install the suspended working and traffic deck - and suspended pedestrian crossings over the trench.
Between Wyndham Street and Mills Lane the team are completing the new road. There will be a few changes to the traffic layout in this area from today Thursday 31st of October. The traffic will be diverted and managed by traffic controllers. Please drive carefully and follow the instructions given by the traffic controllers.
The team are installing the last pavers at the Albert/Wyndham West corner and will complete the works around the tree pits on Wyndham Street West prior to reopening the new footpath from Sumo Sushi up to City Mart next to St Patrick's Cathedral scheduled for early November.
At the corner of Albert/Swanson West the concrete base for the footpath is being prepared for the concrete pour planned for Saturday 2nd November. On Monday 4th November most of the concrete base for the footpath will be completed on the first block - Albert Street West between Wyndham and Swanson Streets.
The streetscape works on Mills Lane is underway the removal of the old footpath is now completed. The construction of the new kerb and channel and footpath will start early November.
Today the team are starting the removal of the old footpath around the ANZ building. This marks the start of the streetscape works on the second block – Albert Street West between Swanson and Wolfe Street.
