Construction Update

 

Mt Eden

  • The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is now stationed inside the portal and is almost ready to start boring

  • Foundation works on the future station has started

  • Work has started on the second tunnel cavern which will be 7 metres deeper than the first tunnel cavern

  • Rock-blasting activity continues given the large presence of basalt rock

  • In early May a new 280 tonne crawler crane will be delivered to support the lifting of precast beams and segments


Karangahape

  • Underground station roof slabs (LO) for both the Mercury Lane entrance and the Beresford Square are now complete

  • Mercury Lane has also seen the completion of the excavation of the first level - B1 of the station

  • The reinforcement for B1 is ongoing and they expect to complete this by the middle of May

  • Teams will then commence excavation to B2

  • They’ll then excavate all the way down to B7, before building the remainder of the levels on the way back up, using what’s called ‘bottom up’ construction.

  • It is anticipated the TBM will break through to Karangahape Station by September 2021


Aotea

  • The Bluestone Wall has been deconstructed with all basalt blocks now removed 

  • Piling in Kingston Street is complete

  • Retaining wall and roof slab work continues on the north zone of site (Wyndham to Victoria Streets)

  • A series of significant concrete pours outside of Auckland Council's building for the roof of the station is complete

  • Work continues on utility upgrades and relocated diaphragm (d-wall) construction operations to near the Huawei Tower on Albert Street

  • Preparing for works to move underground in the Mayoral Drive area with foundations work now being completed

  • Beginning initial works on Mayoral Drive to prepare for the arrival of the tunnel boring machine later this year

  • Overall, more than 80% of bore pile foundations completed & more than 50% of diaphragm wall foundations complete

  • Utilities upgrades and relocations are now more than half complete


Britomart

  • CRL has now handed the 109-year-old Chief Post Office building back to Auckland Transport

  • The building has resumed its role as access to Britomart Station

  • Auckland Transport will undertake façade restoration works over the next year, this includes wrapping the building and scaffolding

  • A small portion of streetscape works as part of Contract 1 are no longer part of the contract and will no longer be completed by CRL contractor Downer Solentache Bachy Joint Venture (DSBJV).

  • Bike racks, light poles and electric bollards have been commissioned in Galway Street and Tyler Streets

  • In the CPO, construction of the new retail area is complete

  • Deconstruction of temporary stairs in glass house continues
