Easter Block of Line

Congratulations to the Link Alliance, City Rail Link’s operational delivery team, who worked tirelessly during the long Easter weekend to undertake work that now positions the project well for the coming months. Teams across the project made the most of these long weekend Block of Lines (when no trains were running) to undertake essential works within the rail corridor.

At Mt Eden, the team successfully constructed columns for the bridge that will provide pedestrian access from Mt Eden Road to the North Auckland Line (NAL) platform, while forming retaining walls on either side of the Porters Avenue level crossing.

Due to the lower train patronage, the team were able to focus on the replacement of sleepers for the Down Main and the realignment of the track which included the use of a tamper machine. The Down Main is the track for east bound trains, and the one that both trains currently run on while work takes place on the Up Main. During the Block of Line, the team also undertook track formation for the new Up Main which is the track for west bound trains.

We can expect to see both tracks reinstated by mid-2023 when the rail line will resume dual track operations.

At the other end of the project, in Britomart Station, teams working in the area also made the most of the Easter long weekend to complete vital works.

There may not have been too much to see above ground, but underground it was all go! Works took place on the northern wall inside the rail tunnel under Scene Lane/Britomart Place.

A team of over 90 people worked 13 hours per day to get as much done as they could while the rail line was closed. The nightshift team worked on Friday and Saturday night.
