Light at the end of Albert Street
Progress is coming in thick and fast for the City Rail Link’s C2 works along the lower end of Albert Street, as the contract moves into the final stages of streetscape enhancements before contract completion.
In late August the contractor, Connectus - a McConnell Dowell and Downer joint venture - lit up Albert Street with a completed run of new streetlights.
The last four streetlight poles in a string of about 40 between Wyndham and Customs Streets were erected as part of the people-friendly streetscape - or urban realm – improvements.
The lights will literally highlight the street’s brand-new outdoor furniture, paved footpaths and 23 native trees, also installed as part of C2 enhancements.
“Installing the streetlights was not an easy task,” said Grant Loch, construction manager for Connectus.
“Prior to installing the light poles, three-metre-deep light pole foundations needed to be constructed. The team dealt with underground obstructions and services for each of them. Also, more than half of the streetlights needed a customised foundation design as the services and utilities couldn’t be removed to accommodate their foundations.”
