Mana Whenua cultural inductions
The last in the series of cultural inductions across Link Alliance sites was given this month to increase awareness among our construction crews of the relevance of our Mana Whenua partnership.
Lead by Nick Hawke of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, the final induction was delivered to the Water Street Link Alliance team, at Mt Eden on August 5.
These inductions touch on area-specific cultural information and what to do if taonga (relics) are discovered. They were delivered at different CRL sites’ respective toolbox meetings.
Our relationship with the eight iwi that sit on the CRL Mana Whenua Forum is an integral part of the project.
As well as providing our workers with cultural inductions and leading blessings and karakia at our sites, Mana Whenua provide Maori mātauranga - knowledge - across a number of key areas.
These includes gifting narratives that have led the placemaking response for stations and their surrounds, artist approval and incorporating cultural values within the project’s sustainability objectives.
