Faces of the CRL – Angel Sturm
Delivering the country’s largest infrastructure project takes some seriously talented people, so in this section “Faces of the CRL” we talk to some of City Rail Link’s best and brightest. This month we turn the spotlight on one of our health & safety experts, Angel Sturm.
Name: Angel Sturm
Age: 22 years of age
Suburb: Huia
How long have you been working with the City Rail Link? 1 year and 3 months
What is your role? I work alongside the Health and Safety (H&S), and Environmental Advisors for the Mt Eden Station.
How do you do it? My role involves providing support to the two teams when required, including maintaining H&S registers, assisting with H&S and environmental hazards, incident reporting, water sampling, noise and light monitoring etc.
What do you enjoy most about your job? That every day is different, you never know if one day you’ll be in the office or taking water samples from the Water Treatment Plants on site. It’s definitely a job that keeps you on your toes and is certainly active. Last but not least is every day I get to work alongside such a talented, hardworking crew that are now my second family.
What is the most challenging part? With lockdown occurring at the moment, working from home would be a challenging aspect but it’s a great balance between home and work life. Since construction has stopped on site, it means I’ve had time to catch up on my work which I didn’t have the time when required out on site to complete.
What have been some of your previous jobs? Previously I’ve worked in hospitality making endless amounts of lattes in my hometown, then joined a motorway project as a gate keeper and from there developed my interest in civil infrastructure.
Do you have any hobbies outside work? I’m a home body, if I’m not at work I’m at home cuddled up on my couch in front of the fire especially on these cold winter nights. In summer, you can find me at the beach, camping, fishing, snorkelling, BBQs and kayaking!
What are you looking forward to most about when the CRL is complete? Seeing the transformation to Tāmaki Makaurau and the way we travel through it. CRL is an absolute game changer, and I cannot wait to ride the train when all is completed with family and friends!
