Albert Street update
The shortest month of the year has been very busy for CRL’s contractor Connectus, who are working on the streetscape upgrade along Albert Street from Wyndham Street to Customs Street.
Connectus is making excellent progress and are on track for the completion of works by December this year.
However, you don’t have to wait until then to see what Albert Street will look like. Some of the wider paved footpaths have already been constructed and Albert Street eateries between Wydham and Swanson Street can now offer outdoor dining.
This month, Connectus has completed the watermain upgrade on the eastern side of Albert Street between Wyndham Street and Mills Lane, the services and utilities relocation and upgrade on the western side between Wolfe and Customs Streets, the new footpath on Mills Lane and most of the new footpath on the western side between Swanson and Wolfe Streets.
In late February, we expect to see the streetscape works start between Swanson Street and Mills Lane on the eastern side. This will involve removing the old footpath and the existing planter boxes outside Stamford Residences followed by the services and utilities relocation and upgrade. After this is completed, a new, wider footpath will be constructed and street furniture installed – ready for this block to be reopened by August.
In the meantime, construction of the new kerb and channel on the western side between Wyndham and Swanson Streets and removal of the old footpath outside NZTC is progressing well. On the western side between Wolfe and Customs Streets, the team is also constructing the new footpath and upgrading the utilities.
There will also be a traffic switch, which is planned for Monday 9th March. Between Customs and Wolfe Streets, southbound traffic along Albert Street will be moved over to the west side and the Quay West P5 carparks will be relocated at that time into Mills Lane. This will allow the team to remove the last concrete deck on the eastern side of Albert Street outside DFS Galleria, followed by construction of streetscape works.
Thank you for your patience as we complete the final stages of streetscape upgrades in this part of Albert Street.
