Flooding inside the tunnels

Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by the recent flooding events in Tāmaki Makaurau. City Rail Link’s (CRL) main priority is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our workers throughout this period. 

Like most of Auckland, CRL’s tunnels and sites were affected by the unprecedented weather event. Since then, crews have been working hard over the long weekend with pumps to remove the remaining water.  

The focus has been on the management of the current situation and preparation the possibility of a further severe weather event before a detailed damage assessment can take place.  

Shoutout to Glenn Gowthorpe, CRL Head of Testing, Commissioning and Emergency Management (who is also the Muriwai Lifeguard SAR squad lead) for his honourable efforts on Friday night rescuing locals and bringing them to safety.
