What's in Store for 2022
Happy New Year from the team at City Rail Link! We’re back and ready for another exciting and busy year as we build Tāmaki Makaurau a world-class rail system.
Last year ended with the project’s biggest milestone yet, on 22 December the Dame Whina Cooper tunnel boring machine (TBM) broke through into Aotea Station – marking the completion of the first of two tunnel drives.
This year we are going to do it all again, with the TBM due to be relaunched in April to bore the second CRL tunnel. The TBM team have been working day and night throughout this month to dismantle, lift and transport the TBM’s front shield from Aotea Station back to the Mt Eden site.
You can also expect to see the following milestones this year:

Completion of the ventilation building that will provide fresh air in the CRL tunnels
Completion of the Basque Park utility upgrade in the third quarter of 2022
