Star-studded Station Tour
Public tours of what will be Auckland’s busiest station, Aotea Station, are now in full swing - happening on the first Thursday of every month.
This month, the tour even had two surprise celebrity guests - ZM’s Fletch and Vaughan (pictured above). The pair took to social media to show how interested they were in the project.
Link Alliance project staff lead the Aotea Station public tour over lunchtimes, starting at 12 noon and lasting approximately one hour. The tours cover the extent of the works happening in midtown and is open to locals and those interested in the construction activity happening along the site.
The tour is a great opportunity to learn more about the City Rail Link (CRL) project and hear from the experts about what it takes to construct New Zealand’s first underground rail system. Attendees at the tour earlier this month had free reign to ask Dave – the Health and Safety Manager – about the ins-and-outs of station construction.
As part of the tour, attendees get a glimpse of what is happening behind the hoardings with a birds-eye view of the site. With over 210 workers on site at once, there is a lot to see from up high.
All tours begin outside Mojo Café, Bledisloe House – which is the perfect place to grab a coffee and quick bite before the outing.
These tours do not enter the construction site, so no special clothing is required but guests are urged to wear stable, closed footwear. Tours run monthly but are cancelled if weather conditions are unfavourable.
