Matariki at Maungawhau
On the last evening in June, we gathered with representatives from our Mana Whenua Forum and members of the public to celebrate Matariki with a wintry evening hīkoi (walk) up the Maungawhau (Mt Eden) volcano.
The hīkoi was led by Paora Puru of Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua, who shared kōrero (story) about the significance of Maungawhau and the origins of Matariki.
The event ended with a karakia (prayer) and a well-deserved hot chocolate - inside a Matariki themed keep cup.
Ngā mihi to everyone who braced the cold to celebrate this special time of the year with us.
The event was beautifully captured by Mark Barber Photography.
