CRL Ready for Quick Restart after COVID-19 Shutdown
Although construction on the country’s largest infrastructure project, Auckland’s City Rail Link, has come to a temporary halt in light of coronavirus restrictions – many of the project’s essential support staff are still able to work from home to keep the cogs turning behind the scenes.
As such, all piling, drilling, demolition, utilities investigation and streetscape works at the project’s many busy worksites across Auckland city have been put on hold until the restrictions are lifted.
“Our immediate priority is ensuring the safety of our people and the security of our sites,” said City Rail Link Ltd Chief Executive Dr Sean Sweeney of the closure. “We will ensure that appropriate measures are put in place to keep each site and the surrounding areas safe.”
Despite the site closures, many staff involved with the project are still able to continue working from home and are doing so as the shutdown continues, he said.
Project planning, procurement and administration of the Business Hardship Programme are going ahead as usual.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure that we are well placed to come out of the blocks very fast when the restart call is given,” Sweeney said.
City Rail Link Ltd and the Link Alliance are still available to speak with people and provide information as normal. For queries, people can contact 0800 CRL TALK (0800 275 8255) or email info@cityraillink.govt.nz or, if they have questions relating to a specific area, they can email the following:

Mt Eden Station - mteden@linkalliance.co.nz
CRL social media pages (Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) and the project website www.cityraillink.co.nz will also continue to keep people informed.
“In the meantime, everyone stay safe and be well, and we look forward to getting back on site as soon as the shutdown is over,” Sweeney said.
