Coffee cart gets new lease on life
From serving the caffeine deprived on Queen Street to a hungry community in Mount Albert, the fate of a modest-yet popular inner-city coffee cart has finally been realised.
Le Petit Café, a small coffee cart no bigger than a shipping container, has been rescued from the scrap heap and given a second lease on life in a community vege patch in Owairaka, where it will serve up ‘Garden Soup’ neighbourhood dinners.
Initially located within the borders of the City Rail Link’s Britomart works, the kiosk’s lease was up earlier this year. It was scheduled for removal to make way for a new pedestrian plaza being created in Lower Queen Street and was destined for the landfill - until the sustainability team got involved.
CRL Sustainability Manager, Liz Root said, “This a great example of applying mantra reduce, reuse, recycle - preventing precious resources going to landfill and providing a local community group with a space to benefit their community”.
