Ōtāhuhu Station works over Christmas
City Rail Link works at Ōtāhuhu Station are ramping up over the Christmas period, with significant activity between 26 December and 13 January.
Works include the construction of a third platform, a new gated entrance to the platform, a new pedestrian overbridge between platforms, 1.3km of new track and four new rail cross-overs.
New overhead line and signal equipment will also be installed between Ōtāhuhu Station and Portage Road.
These improvements mean that Aucklanders have more flexible travel options. Once the CRL project is complete, a new service can run between west Auckland and Ōtāhuhu that enables passengers going west to south or vice versa to avoid having to go to the City Centre. It also means that express train services could be run.
People are often surprised to hear the CRL project doesn’t just include construction work in the inner city and Mt Eden. As well as Ōtāhuhu works, we are also undertaking wider network improvements at Henderson, Newmarket and The Strand, Parnell – the latter of which has already been completed earlier this year.
These wider network improvements ensure that once the CRL is built, the rail network and surrounding infrastructure can support more frequent train services. They also future-proof a more reliable and resilient rail network for Auckland.
What do the Ōtāhuhu Christmas works mean for commuters?
Between 26 December and 5 January no trains will be running on the Eastern and Southern lines from Ōtāhuhu Station and rail replacement bus services will run during this period. From 6 to 13 January, train services will run at reduced peak frequency (20 mins) on the Eastern and Southern lines. After 13 January, the train service for Ōtāhuhu Station will return to its regular schedule.
