A “Vide-ode” to the Chief Post Office
To celebrate this year’s Auckland Heritage Festival, we took an in-depth look at the life of the Chief Post Office Building – a 100-year-old, heritage category 1 listed building that currently houses our City Rail Link Contract 1 (C1) works.
We took a film crew deep into the building and interviewed a former telegraph mechanic who worked there 60 years ago, our own project manager and an architect, who wrote the building’s heritage conservation programme about 30 years ago.
The resulting video (above) explores the building’s early role as one of Auckland’s premier buildings as the Chief Post Office then fast-forwards through time to its current use as home of the Britomart Transport Centre and City Rail Link.
