PM tours the tunnels

September was a huge month for the project. Not only did we have the final TBM breakthrough but we also hosted a very special guest on site – Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The Prime Minister joined Transport Minister Michael Wood, CRL Chief Executive Dr Sean Sweeney and Link Alliance Project Director Francois Dudouit for a buggy ride down one of the two CRL tunnels – stopping along the way at each station to talk to the workers.

Her visit came at a perfect time as we were able to show her the amazing progress that had been made on the project.

“The completion of the tunnel boring phase is expected this month and works have already started on the next phase in the project, the fit-out for our future”, CRL Chief Executive Dr Sean Sweeney said.

The Prime Minister was astounded by the scale of work happening underground and said she was “looking forward to the day when New Zealanders will be able to see it for themselves”.
