Future workforce

At peak construction over 2,000 jobs will be created by the City Rail Link.

These roles span a diverse range of disciplines and give the opportunity for the project to showcase the broad career paths offered by the construction and infrastructure industry in Aotearoa New Zealand, helping to build a sustainable future workforce.

Our future workforce extends beyond schools and into the broader education sector. This includes tertiary organisations and community groups. Through a number of initiatives and engagement with the education sector, Link Alliance aims to inspire our future workforce to explore careers within the construction and infrastructure industry.

LEEP is a short engagement activity that is designed to give our future workforce a taste of the construction and infrastructure industry.

For two and a half hours, our LEEP students meet staff in different roles across the alliance and participate in a guided tour on one of the Link Alliance’s construction sites.

LEEP exposes career pathways and opportunities to people who may not have previously considered construction and infrastructure as an option.

Scaffolding through Sisterhood

The Scaffolding Through Sisterhood work experience programme was created to support increased participation of Māori and Pacific wāhine in the construction and infrastructure industry.

During the April and July school holidays in 2022, eight wahine from partner secondary schools joined the Link Alliance whanau for the five-day programme. The programme focused on increasing their awareness and knowledge of the diverse career pathways into the industry.

Scaffolding Through Sisterhood has activated the aspirations of many young wāhine to work in the industry and for others course has made them reassess and reset. One student who joined the programme in April was ready to leave school. She recently shared that she had just completed her NCEA Level 3 qualification.
