Kia Ora
We are now well and truly underground at both sites in Karangahape! As you can see from the photo above from Beresford Square and below from Mercury Lane the structure of the station is beginning to take shape.
Everyone is working extremely hard to make sure the Karangahape tunnel is ready in September for the arrival of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), Dame Whina Cooper, which is launching from the Mount Eden station in two weeks.
As always if you have any questions or wish to contact us please email Karangahape@linkalliance.co.nz or call 0800 CRL TALK (0800 275 8255 and press option 4).

Helping out in the community
We are always looking for ways whenever possible to be sustainable and a good neighbour. With an office workers recent laptop upgrade we managed to be both. Though it would have been recycled, the team at Karangahape Station thought it could be put to much better use with local reporter and K’road regular – Six.
Six is an editor, publisher presenter, journalist, copywriter, graphic designer, idealist, philosopher, photographer, therapist, amateur ghost hunter and frock star. She is well known and loved in the neighbourhood. Six produces the acclaimed K‘ Road Chronicle which is a not for profit publication and features stories from the neighbourhood, profiling some characters and the challenges they face mixed in with a bit of humour. Previously she was using the computers in the library or by any other means she could find to produce her publication – but not anymore!
You can check out Six’s K’ Road Chronicle and the stories of some of the ‘streeties’ she documents at www.kroadchronicle.com or visit www.facebook.com/kroadchronicle.

Meet the Team! Chin Gathoo – (BIM)
Building Information Modeling Coordinator
What do you do?
I joined the Karangahape Station as a BIM Coordinator almost a year and a half ago. I work across the amazing software world of 2D, 3D and 4D, pretty much all the time on the project.
Where did you grow up?
I stayed most of my childhood at Mumbai, India. I was raised by a close-knit family. However, with the zeal to learn and explore the world of design/construction, I did leave my comfort zone behind in search of different kinds of knowledge. Knowledge which helps one upskill and spread.
Eventually, I landed up here at Auckland and here I am on the project.
Where did you work prior to this?
I have worked as a Junior Architect, Intern, Project Coordinator, Co-founder of a start up, scaffolder, teaching assistant and now BIM coordinator. So a few different roles!
My previous role in New Zealand was as a part time Teaching assistant at AUT, teaching students along with my professors, to learn about BIM. I also had the chance to work on site as a scaffolder and that’s where my love for site developed.
What do you do when you are not working?
During the summer I enjoyed surfing but that might prove more difficult during winter! I love a bit of socialising with my Auckland friends and have at least one online gaming session a week with my friends located abroad.
Finally, I often catch up with my family on video calls, trying give them mental support during these tough times of Covid in India.
Any fun facts to share?
My original name is Chinmay Gathoo, with ‘Chinmay’ being my first name. People in NZ love short names so it became ‘Chin’. However, my friends love to call me ‘Guts’

The Link Alliance recently sponsored the Cross Street Festival on 10 April by using in-house resources to help with traffic management for the yearly music event. Attendees were able to watch some of the best bands Aotearoa has to offer. And despite the rain the festival was attended by 1,100 people!

Jargon Buster
Our everyday words explaining the work we do translated! This month – (concrete) blinding.
Concrete blinding is the process of pouring a thin layer of concrete over the floor of a new building; The purpose of this is to seal in underlying material and prevent dirt and mud from interfering with the structure.
