Kia Ora

Another month gone and we are officially halfway through the year. Thankfully the shortest day of the year has passed, and the days are now getting brighter.

A lot of progress has been made on site and underground as you can see from the works update - https://www.cityraillink.co.nz/notifications-karangahape-station-area

However, lots has been going on in the community and around the site as highlighted below!

As always if you have any questions or wish to contact us please email Karangahape@linkalliance.co.nz or call 0800 CRL TALK (0800 275 8255 and press option 4).

Ngā mihi

Karangahape Station Team

Inspiring the future generation

Thanks to the amazing work of Mary Samasoni, Social Outcomes Future Workforce Lead at Link Alliance, our station has been part of a number of school engagement projects over the last month. On 4 June we hosted two groups from Auckland Grammar School. The boys were kitted out in full PPE and shown onto site – including getting a glimpse down the 22-metre shaft inside the noise enclosure!

Then later in the month we had the privilege of attending the Auckland Girls Grammar, Girls Trade Expo. Five women from different roles across the station went and spoke with students about the opportunities available to women on construction jobs – from engineering and on-site construction roles, to communications.

First Thursdays

In true Karangahape Road style the amazing Kita Mean & Anita Wigl'it hosted a fabulously energetic and colourful runway competition (won by Tangerine Queen) at the Pocket Park for First Thursdays. Pictured with Jonathan Hill the Station Manager and with stall owners at the market their energy and charm enriched an event that is building momentum each month!

The fun continues tomorrow with July’s First Thursdays seeing the return of the delightfully diverse market around Beresford Square organised by Alpha Market and another talented music line up at the Pocket Park. Details on the musicians and more events in the area tomorrow evening can be found on the events page here.

Moana Waiwai, Moana Pati

This month saw the second instalment of the Moana Wall on East Street, and the first combined exhibition of the wall with Tautai’s Gallery space. Curated by Nigel Borell, the exhibition festures work by nine incredible artists: Salvador Brown; Melissa Gilbert; Lyncia Müller; Tuāfale Tanoaʻi; Ashleigh Taupaki; Jasmine Tuiā; Christopher Ulutupu; Tyla Vaeau; and Jaimie Waititi.

The opening night was a spectacular showcase of the work Tautai does and of the talented people and artists involved. A special thanks to Tautai for organising the exhibition and event, all the artists, and to Reverend Mua Strickson Pua for his blessing and being MC for the night.

Red Bar

Each month we would like to put a spotlight on our neighbouring businesses. This month it’s Red Bar!

Located on 59 Pitt Street, this late-night bar, open Thursday to Saturday provides cocktails and psychedelic tunes in line with the character of the Karangahape area. Often featuring local DJ’s this bar, tucked away on Pitt Street has outdoor seating backdropped by Component’s artwork along our hoarding.

If dancing and cocktails aren’t your thing Red Bar also hosts a weekly comedy night on Saturday from 8pm. Check out the Facebook page for more details here.
Top heading and benching
A tunneling method in which the top heading (crown) is excavated, followed by excavation of the lower half of the tunnel. Excavation of the lower half is known as benching.
Photos of the tunnellers and site underground are on show along Hopetoun Street as part of Auckland Festival of Photography.
