Auckland Festival of Photography

We are delighted to announce in line with Auckland Festival of Photography a new exhibition along our hoarding at Hopetoun Street from early June.

Since 2020 the Link Alliance has partnered with the Festival to help build a city-wide contemporary cultural experience. This year the exhibition will feature the people at the heart of the project, many of whom disappear underground each day. Auckland based photographer Mark Barber has captured the humanity of the moment within construction through his art portraits. Mark, the photographer for the project, has carefully selected and curated the photos that will be displayed.

Dame Whina Cooper ready to bore

Earlier this month on a beautiful sunny morning a special ceremony to mark the start of Dame Whina Cooper our Tunnel Boring Machine’s drive was held at Mt Eden.

Transport Minister Michael Wood described the launch as an “exciting milestone” for New Zealand’s largest ever transport infrastructure project – “one,” he says, “that is helping our economic recovery and supporting jobs”.

The Transport Minister was joined by Dame Whina Cooper’s whanau, Auckland Iwi, the city’s Mayor Phil Goff and City Rail Link workers at the launch celebration.

Visit www.digCRL.co.nz, a website dedicated to the machine's groundbreaking journey. There you will find information about its namesake, the machine's progress and location, the people who drive it and answers to more questions you may have.

Online learning programme

The Link Alliance has recently launched the schools learning programme which virtually takes students on a tour of the City Rail Link project. Through this programme tamariki get to travel online and follow the environmental, cultural, and social sustainability stories from the City Rail Link rail project, and rangatahi can see the diverse opportunities within a STEM project.

Learn from two workers from the Karangahape Station, Cecilia (CeCe) Palu an Apprentice (click here) and Katerina (Kat) Howard a CPS Senior Tunnel Engineer (click here).

Schools can enrol to take part in the online field trip on 8 June. You can learn more about the programme and the project by signing up at https://www.learnz.org.nz/futurejourneys212
