Pocket Park receives placemaking award!
It's a proud moment for the Karangahape community as the Pocket Park has been honoured by The Kūmara Awards 2021.
Run by Placemaking Aotearoa, the Awards are homegrown and celebrate fabulous placemaking happening across Aotearoa.
The Pocket Park on Karangahape Road has been honoured with an award in the ‘Beyond the Brief’ category for activating the Karangahape Station construction edge into a vibrant place that showcases the vast talents in the community, supports local businesses and builds connections that uplift both people and place.
Congratulations must go out to The Warren, Monster Valley, The Open Fort and artist Shelly Botticelli who all contributed to the design and building of the Pocket Park. A special thank you as well to the Karangahape Road Business Association who have run numerous events on it, from bands and DJ performances to drag competitions! Keep an eye and ear out in the New Year for some cool acts and events coming to the Pocket Park.

Keeping our work and local whānau safe
To protect the health and wellbeing of our site team members and the local communities of around our work sites, COVID-19 vaccinations are to become mandatory for all Link Alliance staff.
At the start of this month, with help from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, the Link Alliance brought in vaccination teams for a three-day period to make it easy for our teams get their jabs on site.
In addition, we are conducting COVID-19 tests across all Link Alliance sites on a weekly basis.
A huge thank you to the vaccination teams and our administration teams for pulling together this successful initiative.

Beresford with a bang
Our latest artwork installation is in place on Beresford Square and the design packs a bold punch.
Haser, a well-known graffiti artist, has created a literal piece with the square’s name being the subject matter, filled with a mix of vibrant colours and playful flora.
The impressive piece stretches along 25 metres of our lower Beresford Square site (as you walk towards Hopetoun Street).
What you’ll see currently is not the end as we are going to install electric pink lighting along the top to enhance the artwork, so watch this space!

Def Store are switching their stance
Def Store, our local premium skate and street wear store, will be shutting its shop doors and moving solely online.
Situated in Beresford Square since early 2020, Def is a premium local skate and street wear brand with the goal to present to the world the talents of NZ through skateboarding, design, music and art with the people connected to it.
Make sure to grab your board and head down to the Beresford Square store and check the collections, including the Spring ’21 range, in person before they make the move. If you don’t have a board then you know where to get your next one from!

Talking about local business...
With the Government moving into the COVID traffic light system, businesses are opening their doors once more and they need our help more than ever before.
There’s nowhere better to head to first than your own neighbourhood. Head to the Karangahape Road Business Association website to find all of our local businesses who are re-opening on 3 December, if they haven’t already.

Have a feed that helps those in need
With a couple of recent milestones at Karangahape Station, there are not many better ways to reward our staff than with a feed!
This month, we have had the Karangahape Station mined tunnel breakthrough and the Mercury Lane Station box reaching grade level (check out our latest work’s update for more).
As a way of recognising the hard work of our station teams, they tucked into some delicious kai in their bubbles, provided by two local businesses; Eat My Lunch and Boil Up.
For every lunch purchased with them, Eat My Lunch (based on East Street) give a lunch to a child who would otherwise go without.
Kaupapa Māori community group and kai security advocates Boil Up Crew are a part of the creation of the exhibition in Artspace Aotearoa 'Slow Boil'.
Both organisations provide a great way to reward our whanau as well as helping those who need it most.

Q4 stakeholder survey
Each quarter we send a stakeholder survey to our neighbours to see what is working well and where we can improve our services – a big thank you to all those who participated.
On average, you are 78% satisfied with Karangahape Station communications and engagement.
The survey showed a strong appetite for more information on the project and its benefits so we will continue to keep you updated. You can expect to see a video or two before Christmas showing the incredible progress the team has made throughout the year.
If you have any feedback or queries feel free to call 0800 CRL TALK or email us at karangahape@linkalliance.co.nz

Grade level
This is the deepest point the construction teams reach when excavating a station box.
