Porters Ave Closure Postponed
Closure of the Porters Avenue level crossing next to Mt Eden Station has been postponed until later this year because of the COVID-19 shutdown.
The closure was originally planned for Easter. A new date will be confirmed when the City Rail Link (CRL) project gets the all-clear to resume construction.
When the closure does occur, all vehicles will be prevented permanently from using the crossing. People on foot and bikes will still be able use it temporarily until a new footbridge spanning the Western Line is built.
The Porters Avenue closure to vehicles is a safety measure while the Link Alliance completes a big and complex programme of CRL work around the crossing and the wider Mt Eden Station area.
The programme includes shifting underground utilities, building the footbridge, re-developing Mt Eden Station, laying four tracks instead of the present two across Porters Avenue, and building a trench for two of those tracks to connect with the CRL tunnels.
Drivers using Porters Avenue and Wynyard Road will need to plan a new route and allow extra time to reach their destination when the closure takes place.
The Link Alliance will signpost detours to help drivers find a new route. Access across the level crossing for people on foot, or with a bike, mobility aid, scooter or pram will be maintained at all times during construction.
