Art in the City
The Te Waihorotiu Station (Aotea) team took part in the Heart of the City’s October art programme with the unveiling of new artwork across the construction site hoardings (see Jargon Buster).
The Art in the City festival happened in the heart of Auckland city centre from October 7-16, with an incredible line-up of exhibitions, installations, pop-ups and activations adorning public spaces, laneways, galleries and more.
The station’s exhibition, called ‘Urban Walls’ showcases and celebrates diverse Tāmaki Makaurau artists drawing on the theme of urban culture and experiences – past, present and future.
The vibrant and engaging artworks and murals can now be temporarily exhibited along CRL hoardings at two sites along Victoria Street.
On the corner of Victoria and Elliott Streets behind the Te Pūkaki Info Centre, you can view a collaborative mural from four urban mural artists; Mark Henare, Holly Mafaufau, Matt Dowman and Elliot Francis Stewart.
Further up on Victoria Street West (near 55 Victoria Street West), art from seven contemporary and urban artists is displayed along the station hoarding walls. Artists include Rekso, Tai Nimo, Bonco, Keciano, Xi Li, Dylan Blanc Huata and GK. Cavalier.
Fun fact about the City Rail Link project: not only is it New Zealand’s largest transport infrastructure project – it is also the country’s largest art project. So, come on down to midtown and feast your eyes!
