The final TBM breakthrough event was anything but 'boring'! Invited guests and workers gathered to witness a very special moment as the Dame Whina Cooper tunnel boring machine broke through for the final time into Te Waihorotiu Station (Aotea).
After the final breakthrough moment we spoke to Grayson Canton, one of the TBM Shift Engineers, to find out what it was like being on board the machine during the final shift.
Drawing inspiration from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, a handful of spots for members of the public to attend the final TBM breakthrough were awarded to ten lucky ‘Golden Ticket Winners’.
